【摘要】:Thispracticepresentsthoseelementsthatconstituteachemicalprotectiveclothing(CPC)programandconditionstobeusedinestablishingaprogramfortheselectionanduseofCPC.AdherencetothispracticerequiresthatawrittenprogrambedevelopedforanyuseofCPC.Althoughmuchremainstobedeterminedregardingthetoxicityofvaporandliquidexposuretotheskin,thispracticeoutlinestheessentialinformationnecessaryandsuggestedmethodsforhazardassessmentpriortotheselectionofCPC(seePracticeF1154).ThispracticedoesnotaddressthevariousmethodsfortestingCPCorobtainingthedatauponwhichCPCassessmentsaremade.ThesetestmethodsarelistedinSection2ofthispractice.Thispracticedoesnotincluderecommendationsthatmayapplytopersonalprotectionfromnuclearradiation,radioactivecontamination,ormicrobiologicalorganisms,ortoclothingthatisworntoprotectaparticularenvironmentfromtheentryofchemicals,particles,orlivingmatterthatmayarisefromthewearer.CPCshouldbeusedwhenothermeansofcontrolarenotavailable.Itsmajorusesshouldbelimitedtothefollowing:4.5.1Maintenanceoperations;4.5.2Upsetoremergencyconditions;4.5.3Useinlieuofengineeringcontrolswhentheyarenotfeasibleorarebeinginstalled;4.5.4Supplementingfeasibleengineeringcontrolswhentheyfailtocontrolthehazardcompletely;and4.5.5Useintheeventthatengineeringcontrolsfail.EngineeringcontrolsandsubstitutionofmaterialsshouldbestressedasthefirstlineofdefenseinallcontrolsituationssinceeffectiveuseofCPCdependsonworkercompliance,properselection,qualitycontrol,andothervariablesthatmayprovetobeweaklinksinanoverallcontrolprocess.1.1Thispracticeisintendedtopromotetheproperselection,use,maintenance,andunderstandingofthelimitationsofchemicalprotectiveclothing(CPC)byusers,employers,employees,andotherpersonsinvolvedinprogramsrequiringCPC,therebylimitingpotentiallyharmfulandunnecessaryskinexposures.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
